Finally, in parliament, an admission of the appalling rollout of critical frontline service workers – yet another broken promise of the over-promising, under-delivering Albanese Government.
After months of seeking the truth, the information was revealed in a question by Shadow Minister for Child Protection and the Prevention of Family Violence, Senator Kerrynne Liddle, in Senate Estimates late last night (Wednesday).
“After nearly two years, there are just two of the 500 frontline workers (SA and NT) actually on the frontline to assist the desperate family, domestic and sexual violence sector,” Senator Liddle said.
“Let’s not forget thousands of women, children and vulnerable people are being impacted every day that this promise has not been delivered.
“Worse still, the Minister has allowed $38 million of the $169 million to flow to state and territory jurisdictions late last year despite delivering almost nothing.
“Prime Minister Albanese said in November: ‘My government is taking immediate and practical action . . . We’ve delivered on our commitment of new frontline and community sector workers to support victim-survivors’.
“How is this statement true when we have less one per cent of the promised 500 new frontline workers actually on the ground helping vulnerable Australians,” Senator Liddle said.
“Australia is in the grip of an epidemic of domestic violence. Why should Minister Amanda Rishworth keep her job if she thinks this pace is acceptable?”
